My Doctor's Mind Games

As stated in a previous post: my doctor and I have a different view on when this baby was conceived. But I had a revelation last night that might explain the disparity.

While reading Pregnancy Week by Week (a gift from my bestie, Pearce), I noticed that they labeled each week two different things. Mom's timeline and baby's development timeline. Mom would be six weeks along, baby would be four. That makes sense to me because of the whole counting 2 weeks before conception.

So, maybe the doctor said the baby is 5 weeks along!?! which means I was 7 weeks along!?!? That makes more sense with my conception timeline and makes me feel better that I am further along my first trimester.

This also taught me a very valuable lesson (that I knew, but didn't realize it needed to start now)...ASK QUESTIONS and CLARIFICATION from your doctor. When I go back and do another ultrasound, I will ask is the BABY 9 weeks along or am I?

Hopefully that will clarify things.

I know this isn't a big deal but the flipping back and forth with how far along I am is maddening.

Right now, I am feeling a lot better than I have the past few days. When my parents were in town, I was nauseous (HA! first time I spelled that right with out spell check! Pregnancy is teaching me things already!) all the time. they would take me out for heavy, fatty meals which made me feel good for about an hour or two but then awful after. I went to Babies-R-Us yesterday and bought some Preggy Pops. AND THEY ARE AWESOME! With those and Life Saver Pep-O-mints (thanks for the tip, Erin), I am doing much better at work. I still have some light-headed spells but I am hoping that will pass quickly. Thanks for your help everyone!

  2. Glad your feeling better!

I still dont ask questions, either at the kids apt or mine, I try, I go in with a list but someone side tracks me sticking their head in a trash can or playing with the little foot stirrups or the doctor goes on a tangent and then when I get home I realize that alas... I'm confused. Your not alone. And it only gets worse!

  3. one of the books i had gave the me time line and the doctor timeline. it's different by about two weeks and yes very confusing. but the truth is the babe will come on his/her watch. not yours. and not the doctors.

it will all be fine. promise.

enjoy the confusion - it's just beginning :)

ps - did you tell your mom and dad??

  4. That does make sense! I am reading the week by week book, too! It was a gift from my sister! :)

I am so glad that the peppermint is helping. My students wonder why I eat so many of them, but they will find out soon enough! I go to the doctor on Wednesday, the 22, I'll check in with you then. When is your next appt?

Do you have a facebook account? I'd love to keep in touch with you that way, too. I do, you know my last name, look me up. :)

I am so excited we're going through this preggo stuff together! Hugs to you. The neusea does get better! I am drinking a virgin strawberry daqari right now...omg, it is GOOD!

  5. Best piece of advice I could give you....only use the timeline that uses your LMP as the guide for how far along you are. Because otherwise, it will drive you CRAZY.

BTW, do you gag while brushing your teeth? I remember brushing my teeth was torture during the 1st trimester!!!
